If I am to compare it with the women of the 21st century, I have observed that through the emergence of education, women are now knowledgeable and are courageous to fight for their rights, socially and politically. Though women of the western and Eastern part of the world still vary, it was still the development that they have gained through time. Feminism arose and women were given opportunities for service and education. Women are given chances to become winners of worldwide competitions since they are now allowed to study. Even if the main names in a record for noble awards are mostly from men, it is still a good catch to have women on the list. For some reasons, the women who are not provided of privileges, there is still some discrimination with their gender. Like for some women or most of the women in Africa, they are discriminated with the way they look and the way they live. I think most of us know that life there is not a joke where there will be adequate sources. African women are degraded with their color that is why during a war, African girls were used as a protest to the whites. They challenged the men to make love with them; which in turn was a real insult with their masculinity. Also, color of the skin is a preference for the dominance in this world, so I think, white women who are whiter than others feel the authority and power over other girls with darker skin. This may also be the reason why many beauty products are being made in order to make other girls with the same position with the others. LSAT Tricks from an Insider The makers of the LSAT are famously mysterious, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get inside their heads. Teaching LSAT prep classes has given me some unique insights into the how and  why of the test; the following tips- one for each section of the LSAT- should help you crack LSAC’s code on test day. LSAT Trick #1:  Memorize Argument Types Section: Logical Reasoning The vast majority of questions on the two Logical Reasoning portions of the LSAT contain a full argument: one or more premises and a conclusion. The conclusion is the thing the author is trying to prove, and the premise is some evidence that supports that conclusion. A tried and true way of scoring big on the Logical Reasoning portion is to memorize a  list of those argument types  then look for them on test day. Here’s an example of a common argument type, often referred to as excluding alternatives: There are two restaurants in this town- Roach Hut and Beef in a Cup. Beef in a Cup is closed for health code violations. Therefore, we must eat at Roach Hut. We’ve eliminated every possible alternative, so we can conclude that we must go with the only one left. Arguments like this show up on every LSAT. There are also mistakes that show up regularly in arguments, and the LSAT tests your understanding of them. Here’s an example of a flaw that some refer to as an exclusivity flaw: Imagine that, in the town referenced in the argument above, there was a third restaurant, Road Kill Bar Grill. If you made the exact same argument- excluding one restaurant- without showing that this third option was impossible, you would’ve committed an exclusivity flaw. On the test, two questions can look different on the surface- one might be about moon rocks and another about ancient history- but they may very well just be different contexts for the same type of argument. If you memorize the argument types and argument flaws before test day, you’ll be light-years ahead of the competition. LSAT Trick #2:  Use Your Game Setup More Than Once Section: Analytical Reasoning (Games)   Let’s say question #9 asks you, â€Å"If C is in slot 7, which one of the following must be true?† You dutifully create your Logic Games setup with C in 7, get the answer and move on. Guess what? You can use the work you did on question #9 on later questions. For example, another question might ask something like, â€Å"Which of the following could be true?† If there’s an answer choice that matches the setup you already made for question #9, you’ve already proven that it could be true, and so you’ve got the right answer without doing any work. If you can use your earlier work to knock out a few answer choices, you have a better chance of getting the later question right. If you can knock out all four wrong answers, then you’ve got the right answer by process of elimination. The takeaway here is don’t do more work than you have to. LSAT TRICK #3: Find the Argument Structure Section: Reading Comprehension It’s useful to think of a passage in the Reading Comprehension section as a really long (and boring) Logical Reasoning argument. Since there are generally between one and three arguments being made in any Reading Comprehension passage, and we know that an argument is made of premises and a conclusion, look for those premises and conclusions as you read. Find the structure of the argument to help you understand whats being asked.   These things are very often conclusions: A cause and effect relationship; a hypothesis; a recommendation that a course of action be taken; a prediction; an answer to a question. These things are very often premises: An experiment; a scientific study; scientific research; an example; an expert’s statement; a laundry list of items in a category. Here’s an example of something you might see on test day: The author says that smoking causes cancer. Then he talks about a study that shows that people who smoke are far more likely to get cancer than those who don’t. The cause and effect relationship is the conclusion, and the study is a premise that supports it. You’ll get tested on your understanding of how those two things relate to one another. For this, he is capable of doing anything, even murder. He does not even hide the intentions he has such that his home village is supportive of his mission and cheerfully bid him farewell. Shannon on the other hand is similarly a strong, rebellious and headstrong. This character is brought out by the fact that she wants to be free of the traditional life at her home and wants to go and explore the world. She does not like being the perfect and well-mannered daughter her parents and the society wants her to be. Her strong character is evident by the way she shoots at Joseph when he invades their home trying to kill her father Daniel. Both Joseph and Shannon are strong enough to survive a hard life in Boston. Shannon tries to dance in order to get money while Joseph becomes a ring boxer to also make money. The owners of the home they had invaded shoot Shannon but Joseph attends to her until she gains her strength back. This shows that both characters faced their cha llenges head on despite of how cornered they were. While contrasting both characters it is easy to see that Joseph and Shannon are still different in their own way. For instance, once Shannon has set her mind to do something nothing can deter her and she is not easily swayed by anything. Conversely, from the film one can see that Joseph does not stick to what she has originally planned. One instance is when Joseph decides to seek revenge on the person who murdered his father but after he see’s Shannon, he is mesmerized by her strong character and somehow forgets his mission. In addition, while in Boston both Joseph and Shannon decide to work in order to acquire a piece of land but when Joseph is paid, he uses his money on expensive clothes so as to get Shannon’s admiration (Ebert 1992). This however does not sit well with Shannon who cannot believe Joseph is wasting the money on other things instead of saving for their daily upkeep. Shannon is a very goal oriented pers on and anyone who tries to mess around with her plans of being independent is not very welcome. Patient Observation: Alzheimers, Disability and Autism (all names changed for confidentiality) I am going to discuss three patients I have been assigned to My 1st   patient is suffering with Alzheimers   memory loss My 2nd patient is suffering with A physical disability My 3rd client is suffering with autism Alzheimers and Memory Loss Accurate observation of client providing background information The patient I am working with is 80 years of age,(Leo) (name changed for confidentiality)   he is suffering with Alzheimers which is a memory loss, and he has 6 children and a wife who has passed away. He is having trouble remembering some names of his family, his son that admitted him he did not remember when brought back up in conversation, but he did remember one of his other sons when I mentioned him. He has been suffering with Alzheimers the past 6 years now and its been slow progressing. Detailed account of the challenges experienced by the client The challenges he is having is communication with others not sure of where he is or who he is, he gets lost in conversation unsure of what you sometimes do be asking him about his background and things he liked to do. I do know he was a hardworking man and was always out and about never stuck inside loved gardening and working, but now he is in a wheelchair and incapable of walking washing or shaving himself. Detail account of the competences demonstrated by the client He is very competent on feeding himself and having his cut of tea and cigarette, so I do bring him out for one anytime he needs or feels like having one. He likes to be well dressed in a suit most days especially a Sunday for Sunday mass he has not forgotten that is starts at 9am and ends at 11am. Description of current measures to assess client need Current measures at this present moment he has been admitted into the nursing home and has been here with us now the past 4 mounts. We have a secure and safe environment and also have good security measures in place such as cameras and a wrist band that tracks where the patients are at all times. Realistic suggestions and implementation plan to improve the quality of the life of the client The plan I do have to improve the quality of the clients life is asking his family to visit more often so he does not feel isolated and help him start remembering who they are bring him out for a walk in the gardens let him help plant flower pots on a table so he can still enjoy gardening we have activity to help with learning, doing arts and crafts such as painting or knitting, sing songs and play music that they enjoy, work on puzzles, look at books and newspapers he may like or watch movies that he has an interest in. Considered evaluation and description of personal learning outcomes I have learned what needs to be taken into consideration to make it more comfortable for him, to keep the patient safe and calm at all times the physical intellectual emotional social and spiritual that are implemented throughout the day are devices to help communicate better, activitys to help stimulate his brain his own wheelchair to help with mobility, and we make sure he is kept warm safe, washed and well groomed, to his own choice of clothing. Like what he had been doing in his everyday life before his Alzheimers got worse, and had to be admitted here. Until one morning she called her daughter to bring her to the bathroom and while she was left unattended, she had swollen knees and felt dizzy. This is what could have caused the fall she had. She had a fall earlier this year that stopped her from being independent, and walking she can walk a little bit but is too afraid in case she falls again, she nearly lost her life to that last fall. she has 5 children and a late husband that has passed, her children call almost every day like they have been doing so she has settled in and feels at home here with us. Detailed account of the challenges experienced by the client The challenges she is living with is she cannot walk much anymore and cant do the things she use to do, she was an independent woman and still at her age was making dinners, washing dishes washing cloths and hanging them out to dry on the line etc. she is incapable of washing herself without help and using the bathrooms so I go with her if she needs any help†¦ now she has to have all that done for her because she cant face the challenges anymore even though she would like to.. Detail account of the competences demonstrated by the client She is able to feed herself and always had a routine to where she was up at 8 in the morning and start preparing dinner for 1 o clock everyday afternoon after her breakfast, so I make sure her routines the same as it always has been. She likes her cups of tea so anytime she feels like having one I grab her a cup, she has pacific times for everything and I try my best to keep them the same as it always has been for her. Description of current measures to assess client need At the present moment she has been with us now for half a year and she seems quite happy with everything and the routine is going, we have a safe and secure environment and are helping her best we can. Realistic suggestions and implementation plan to improve the quality of the life of the client The plan I have to improve the quality of her life, we have got her own wheelchair that move by pressing buttons so she has a bit of independence and doesnt feel like someone always has to push her, she does walk a bit every morning with me not to much because she afraid she will fall again but its a start she trusts me to walk with her even if it is only a few steps. i bring her out into the gardenings for a stroll so she isnt always inside, and she loves knitting she has already made 3 blankets, she loves the evenings getting to do activity singing along to old songs like she use to do at home. Detailed account of the challenges experienced by the client The challenges she is facing is communicating, Ciara has trouble reading and spelling making dinner or cups of tea, but loves to watch other people doing so. the challenge is to encourage Ciara to help and be independent. She gets very frustrated when she dose not want to try. Detail account of the competences demonstrated by the client She can feed herself and dress herself shes very keen on what outfits suit what day and loves the colour pink, Ciara loves her cups of tea and a walk around the garden she also like gardening singing and dancing, she is very adamant on having 2 showers a day once in the morning and once at night before bed time she likes to keep the same routine she has her walk at 4 oclock every evening when her sister comes to visit so Lilly brings her thats their time together Description of current measures to assess client needs At the moment she has been with us now for 2 years and is very happy with everything and the way her routine is, we have a safe and secure environment. She sees a speech therapist to help her communicate more with others, we have pictures around the room with the word underneath so she can understand what she need and wants, she gets a certain medicine called melatonin which helps her sleep. Realistic suggestions and implementation plan to improve the quality of the life of the client How we have improved the quality of her life is by going through the same routine she has always been in get her up in the mornings she has her shower and picks out what she is going to wear then she gets her coup of tea and breakfast at 11 she goes to the church here in out home to pray for an hour and plays activitys for 2 hours then she plays games such as snakes and ladders, chest and loves to sing and dance her sister Lilly comes in at the same time everyday which is 4 oclock and they go for a walk around the garden and for an hour when shes comes back in its dinner time after dinner she watches a film till she feels tired and looks for her bed time shower when she is out of the shower she gets her tea and goes to sleep so we keep her routine the same as we can every day. Swords The sword was the predominant weapon of the knight during the Middle Ages. According to the Arms and Armor Glossary, "Swords have a long tapered, usually two edged blade ranging from 32" to more than 72" In length ending in a point which was sometimes, but not always, used for thrusting." Knights used swords in battle because they were very light. In weight, ranging from 3-5 pounds. The first metal swords were made of bronze, but later they were crafted of iron. From the period of the sixth century until the fifteenth century the most popular weapon for both knights and squires was the broadsword. The broadsword is generally a two-edged sword that ranges in length from 30" to 42". This sword is 2" to 3" at the base and 1/16" to 1/8" at the point. A knight was able to fight all day with this weapon because of its light weight, yet it was heavy enough that it could inflict serious harm on anyone that was to get in it's way. The broadsword is so dangerous because it works by concentrating the force of its blow. Another popular type of sword was the bastardsword. Bastardsword is the modern word for hand and a half sword. This blade's popularity peaked during the fifteenth century. Being 44" to 50" in length this sword was longer than the traditional broadsword. Knights liked this sword because of its versatility, the extended handle allowed the blade to be used in either both hands or wielded in one hand. In general swords tend to weigh less than most people think. The pommels of many swords are thicker than they appear in most drawings and illustrations; they are heavy in order to counter the blade. Over time the sword came to possess a very strong symbolic meaning, different virtues were assigned to the two edges of the sword. "The two edges of the sword show that the knight serves both God and the people, and its point shows that all people must obey him." (Barber 36) The cross or quillion (a popular 16th century term) is another part of a sword. It was given this name because of its shape; the quillion resembles a Christian cross, which subsequently furthers the symbolism of the sword.

Forest life changes the characters Essay

In Shakespeare’s As you like it, we find the characters attempting to escape the court. What they specifically are escaping from are the ‘briars’ of the ‘working day world’. The imagery of briar bushes specifically enacts a form of entanglement; that the world of the court is entrapping and the people in it are reflected as such. What is ‘comely envenoms him that bears it’, highlighting a reverse polarisation of morality, that what is good is a hindrance in the world of the court. This is paralleled by what Touchstone (who represents the court as a jester, whom were always in the service of the court) says; ‘The sweetest nut hath the sourest rind’. Indeed, the usurper is viewed as the rightful ruler of the court whereas the rightful ruler is branded an outlaw. So the characters escape to the forest in order to cleanse themselves of ‘th’infected world’ (Playing upon the previous mention of ‘envenoms’ as a form of physical affliction that requires cathartic release). One can argue that the characters do respond to the forest, and their characters change as such. One particularly significant example is how Shakespeare constructs the forest as a place of alternative knowledge; Duke Senior finds that the ‘winds are his councillors’ and that the ‘trees shall be my (his) books’, that they find ‘sermons in stones’. This highlights the homiletic edification that occurs when one engages with nature, and indeed, this is paralleled by the discourse expressed between Rosalind and Celia in Act I, where they comment on how fortune (A product of the court) and nature (Of the forest) are at odds with one another; ‘Fortune reigns in gifts of the world/not in the lineaments of nature’. The escapism of the forest is further expressed when the gentlemen become ‘merry men’ and ‘brothers in exile’ highlighting how they are able to ‘fleet time as they did in the golden age’, with the ‘merry men’ alluding exclusively to the notion of ‘Robin hood’, who represents an active rebellion against the court, suggesting an underlying romanticisation of what it is to be an outlaw. Indeed, defying social norms appears to be what the forest epitomises, and as such, Rosalind even changes all perception of her by becoming ‘Ganymede’, she essentially dresses up to become someone different. Finally, we find the two main ‘villains’ of the story; Duke Frederick and Oliver have a very quick change of heart from the forest, which in both cases turn out to be spectacular examples of Deus Ex Machina, both being equally contrived but portrayed as legitimately woven into the story. So in that sense, the forest is a healing force. However, there is an argument for the opposite; that the forest is exactly the same as the court and no significant change occurs. One of the biggest examples of this lies in the speech of Lord 1 regarding the murder of a deer. The deer are portrayed as ‘native burghers’ in their own ‘desert city’, who retreat ‘from the hunters aim’ into a ‘sequestered’ ‘languish’. Jaques remarks then about how the foresters are the ‘mere usurpers’ who ‘kill them up/in their assign’d and native dwelling place’. This is particularly significant because a parallel is drawn between the deer and the foresters, the deer is escaping usurpation in much the same way the foresters are, this is further enhanced by the fact that the deer has a ‘leathern coat’, a deliberate wording by Shakespeare to highlight the parallels it has with its human usurpers. This usurpation is shown elsewhere in the book, Rosalind who buys the shepherds ‘passion’ (Livelihood) because it is ‘much upon her fashion’, suggesting a transitory or arbitrary desire, devoid of consideration for the fact that the shepherd derives his survival from his flock. Indeed, she wishes to ‘waste her time’ here, rather than use it for any meaningful purpose. Other aspects of the court are also filtered into the forest to enact a distinct lack of change. The notion of the ‘merry men’ and ‘brothers in exile’ is immediately undermined by the fact that the duke is referred to as ‘your grace’, implying that the hierarchy of society is still in place, despite their attempts to gloss over it. Indeed, the very nature of them dressing up as foresters when they are in fact ‘gentlemen’ enacts the nature of the ‘painted pomp’ that is alluded to when referring to the court. The word ‘pompous’ implies a level of self-importance and unnecessary grandiose, which is ever present in the forest; ‘to blow on whom I please’ (IE, to do as I wish). Conventionally in the pastoral, the return to ‘reality’ (In this instance, the court) is forced due to the ephemeral nature of Arcadia. However, at the end of the play here, we find that the characters easily cast off their ‘disguises’ as if they had never left, willingly returning to the court, signifying that there must have been little difference between the two worlds, and emphasising the fact that the court has been a constant throughout the play. One of the most famous quotes of the play, ‘All the world is a stage’ is particularly significant here also. Throughout the story, the ‘motley coat’ (Emblematic of the fool) has been alluded to, and it represents the ‘players’ and by extension, the audience as a whole. If we are all ‘players’ as in a play, with ‘their exists and entrances/and many parts’, then we are all fundamentally acting like the foresters all the time, we all are part of the same outcome. Indeed, at the very end, we all are ‘sans teeth, sans taste, sans everything’, emphasising the fact we all end up subjected to time and age, no better for our experiences in life. This is particularly ironic of course, because earlier on in the story, the forest is described as having ‘no clock’, but it is infact time that undoes all as expressed in this passage, enacting the futility of escape and the absence of any change in outcome from action. Finally, we have the ephemeral nature of the escape for the audience. As alluded to in the preceding paragraph, the audience are ‘players’ and actors in the play to, but do they change? At the very end, within the epilogue, Rosalind breaks the fourth wall, essentially undermining the experience of the play, returning the audience from the ‘forest’ (The imaginative space of the play) to the ‘court’ (Reality). She directly remarks upon the fact that it is a play, that it is a constructed narration and further commends it to be watched by the friends of the audience (Cementing the notion of ‘realism’ in the fact that the play is a commercial enterprise at heart, not a creative escape).
